Visitable space

The air-raid shelter in Dalmau Park became operational in 1937, some months after the decision of the Municipal Committee, on November 2, 1936, to create shelters to protect civilians from aerial bombardment. Three shelters were built in the city: the first in Roser hill, the second in Parc dels Pins (Dalmau Park) and the third, which was known as the Farm. The combined capacity of the three shelters was 3,600 people, exactly half of the town's population at that time. The population was divided between the three shelters in function of the street they lived on; each of the shelters had three doors for easy access and to avoid congestion.

The Town Council of Calella, in collaboration with the Democratic Memorial, restored and signposted the air-raid shelter in Dalmau Park to make it visitable, inaugurating the space on April 11, 2010 and including it in the Network of Democratic Memory Sites of Catalonia. The visit is complemented by explanatory panels and its own museology, in addition to the audiovisual presentation Testimonies of War, in which different residents of Calella explain their experiences during the Civil War years and the post-war period.
